Celebrating Harris
Community development is slow, hard work.
That’s because poverty is complex. No quick fixes. No silver bullets. No shortcuts.
To see lasting change in a community, it takes perseverance and patience. It takes compassion and consistency. It takes all of us, working together for an extended period of time. It requires a long obedience in the same direction.
That’s why this month we’re celebrating faithfulness.
Few people demonstrate this virtue better than Harris, a longtime member of the 1MISSION team in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. Those of you who have gone on build trips have met him. You’ve seen him hard at work. And you’ve heard his joyful laughter.
As our construction supervisor, Harris knows that a new house is a big deal for a family that has earned it. So he’s committed to making sure each and every house is built with TLC.
Day by day, week by week, year after year, Harris is faithful in his work. He’s also a husband and father, a church member, and a servant leader in his community, always eager to lend a helping hand.
This video from a few years ago beautifully captures Harris’s heart.
Next time you’re in Mexico, be sure to tell Harris how much you appreciate him.
In the meantime, we invite you to join the Supply Yard. This is the best way to participate in the slow but transformative work of building community, one house at a time.
If you join the Supply Yard with a commitment of $50 or more per month, you’ll be invited to participate in a future build trip to Mexico for free. For more perks and details, visit our Supply Yard page.
