Get To Know the 1MISSION Board
Here at 1MISSION, we’re fortunate to have a committed, engaged Board of Directors who help us stay on mission, strategically plan, and fulfill our obligations to steward resources with accountability and transparency.
Today, we want to introduce you to these members. We asked them to share what it is that draws them to this cause we love.
Chris Lundberg, Treasurer
A number of years ago, I had the privilege to lead a group of college students down to Mexico for the weekend, and found 1MISSION to be first and foremost about the families they serve. We came down with expectations of serving in a ministry to provide housing, and realized we were completely wrong.
The joy of partnering with families on their holistic journey—with the house being one small but important aspect of that—was something I wanted to get behind in any way I could, as it ties in perfectly with what I do every day [as a realtor]. It's a joy seeing the vision and mission of 1MISSION expand, one family at a time!

1MISSION has made a difference in the lives of people I know and people I don’t know alike. Thousands of families’ lives have been positively impacted in the name of Jesus because of interactions created by 1MISSION. For instance, my team was able to share the love of Jesus with a man named Ramón who unfortunately died months after my team building his family a houses. But fortunately Ramón is now in heaven and his family that are still living have a house to live in.
Serving on the Board gives me the opportunity to help 1MISSION continue to be a positive influence in the lives of people like Ramón and his family.
Lacy Cooper, Secretary
I joined the 1MISSION Board in 2019. At the time, I was a federal prosecutor conducting wiretap investigations and taking down the Mexican cartels. But I knew that the work I was doing would be short-lived.
What good is it to simply weed out the bad actors in a community if you do not also fill the void by planting good? 1MISSION is in the business of planting good. And it's not just the houses that are built to provide shelter for families who don't know what it's like to truly have a home. It's also the moms who are becoming entrepreneurs and selling their homemade goods, and the dads who are getting a degree or honing marketable skills. It's the kids who are learning to read and garden.
1MISSION tills the soil of these fertile communities, plants seeds, and then nourishes them so that they can grow and flourish for generations to come. I am honored to be a part of this important work.

As the CEO of 1MISSION, I value serving on the Board because it provides me with the opportunity to cast vision and set the long-term direction of the organization with the other Board members. They often bring fresh perspectives, since their days are spent in their respective vocations, that are often quite different from the non-profit world.
I also appreciate the accountability that they provide, ensuring that the organization is a good steward of the trust that our stakeholders have placed in us. This includes both the people we serve in the field, our staff and those who provide the resources necessary to fulfill our mission.
Ian Long, Chairman
I think 1MISSION is a very unique model for a non-profit. I have not come across another organization that intentionally uses community, both locally and abroad, as the primary engine to achieve their mission. It's common to see funding on one side and execution on the other, but 1MISSION blurs the lines here in a good way. I have seen how this approach acts as a multiplier to our impact on all who are involved.
In the 15 years my family has supported and served with 1MISSION, the effect on us is immense. It's not part of 1MISSION’s mission statement, and you probably won't find it in the annual report, but when you [mobilize] people to help people, everyone is impacted. Then those people draw from their experience to extend help within their new capacity and more are blessed.
Once you see it happen, you can't help but lean in. My role on the Board is just another way to be part of that impact cycle and I am honored to both serve and be served in this capacity.

When we started 1MISSION all those years ago, the big question we were asking was, how do we move beyond relieving needs, to actually developing community? Even then, we were taking the long view, wanting to be able to look back and see proof of lasting impact.
As I reflect back on the past 16 years, I'm astonished by all the evidence of transformation we continue to see—from houses and community gardens to the new life trajectories of the families we serve. I'm inspired by the dedication of our local teams, hired from within the communities where we work. And I'm grateful to everyone who has stepped up to partner with us to support this work, whether by serving on build trips, volunteering at events, or giving financially.
As part of the Board of Directors, it's an honor to help guide 1MISSION into the future, finding creative new ways to keep building community, one house at a time.
